The magician shows two metallic bars, which look like ordinary bar magnets. The bars are painted red at one end and black at the other end. The bars behave just like a pair of magnets should. When opposite colored ends are brought together, the bars attract, and when like color ends are brought together, the bars repel each other.
The magician makes a magic pass and things go haywire. First the same colored ends attract each other, while the opposite colored ends repel each other. Then all the ends attract each other no matter which colors are put against each other. Finally all the ends repel each other. The magic spell which has been cast is now reversed and the magnets act correctly once again. Nothing is switched! There is no sleight of hand used! These magnets seem to defy the laws of science.
